Smart Control for Custom Energy Storage with Voltfang
Challenge
Voltfang develops custom energy storage solutions for a wide variety of applications. However, this diversity brought a technical challenge: How do you efficiently and reliably control a broad range of individual storage systems?
The solution had to integrate seamlessly into existing energy management systems (EMS) while enabling intelligent, cost-effective control logic. High adaptability and future-proofing for long-term system operation were particularly important.

Solution
Revolution Pi proved to be the perfect answer to Voltfang's requirements. The open and modular design of the RevPi devices enabled easy integration of individual control logic, communication interfaces, and additional functions. The broad protocol support was particularly valuable: Modbus, Profinet, CANopen, and MQTT made seamless integration into existing EMS systems possible.
Another key aspect was the use of edge computing directly on-site. This allowed intelligent functions such as battery condition monitoring to be executed locally. This made the entire system not only more fail-safe and responsive but also significantly reduced the data load to the cloud.
Implementation
The technical implementation was based on Revolution Pi's Linux operating system. This enabled Voltfang to easily deploy updates and new functions via remote access – a decisive advantage for long-term maintenance and system operation.
